I am Craig’s sister in law. I am a registered sleep technician and a respiratory therapist. I have a passion for sleep disorders and recently went to a WAKE UP Michigan Symposium. I was unbelievably moved by the stories I heard there and was planning on telling everyone who would listen to me- to please get SLEEP and watch for signs of drowsy driving!!! Last week I talked to a group of people about drowsy drivers and the horrible consequences. Little did I know that a week later I would be at a memorial service for my brother in law.
Craig Condill was 55 years old, with a beautiful wife, 7 children and 7 grandchildren. He had everything to live for- he was a happy guy!!! On October 25th he spoke to his wife at 4:00 pm, he was on his way home from work – he told her he had had a very boring day. At approximately 4:25 pm Craig we believe, fell asleep at the wheel and his car drifted to the left into an oncoming truck. We were told he died at the scene. How ironic is it that his sister in law had been on a mission to tell everyone she knew about drowsy driving? She never got to tell Craig.
His wife is devastated – his 83 year old parents are still wondering why they couldn’t have died instead. The kids are all in shock. His brothers are speechless – it has affacted many many people and we will never get over this loss – I will not stop telling people about the consequences of drowsy driving–never! Craig did not get up that morning of October 25th and decide he would drive his vehicle into a semi-truck- the only consolation that I have is that no other lives were lost. We will miss you Craig – but you have not died in vain- your sister in law hopes she will help others by telling your story. Until we meet again in heaven – Love Susie
